    Aged Grano Padano (Aged Parmesan)

    A 16mth aged hard Italian Grano Padano cheese, traditionally used on pasta, but also great to simply eat on a cracker.

    Why is it not called Parmesan?

    'Parmesan' has become much as a catch all name for both Parmigiano Reggiano and Grano Padano. Both are very similar. Both cheeses are DOP (Denominazione d' Origine ProtettaProtected Designation of Origin controlled: with strict traditional production processes and are from designated neighbouring geographical areas in Italy. The matured versions having similar tastes and textures. Grano Padano has been produced since the 11th century, two centuries before its counterpart.

    Purists might argue that the taste differs slightly due to the different grasses the cows eat. We will let you be the judge of that.

    Made since the 17th century the colour,  from natural vegetable dyes,  was used to distinguish it from cheddar as a unique cheese all of it's own.
